Sessions |
I've received
some wonderful emails from people who have sent me
updates about sessions in their area. I really appreciate
this.
I can't keep up with everything everywhere.
I encourage musicians to contact me with details about sessions they
attend.
Also, before you go to a session, please confirm that it still
exists as posted.

Once-a-month Sunday
Session Sunday 10th February 2019

Venue: Kildare
Room, Entrance on Cumberland St.
·
New Time 1:00 pm
Once-a-month Sunday Session at Brigid’s Well
Pub
Looking to experience the beauty and
history of Traditional Irish
Music in
an authentic setting?
Our
once-a-month Sunday Session at Saint Brigid’s for the upcoming fall
and winter 2019 season
hosted by FRANK CASSIDY.
Playing with other musicians can be extremely
satisfying and fun. It's also one of the most effective ways to
become a better musician - it can feel a bit daunting to find
musicians, jam buddies or band members in your area. You might think
‘I don’t know any musicians’ or ‘I’m not good enough’.
We
start with a 1-hour slow session for beginners or
those of us learning
a new instrument or
for those who just want to explore playing a reel or jig etc. at a
slower pace than normal.
We finish off the afternoon with a regular
session for approx.. 1 ½ hour.
We believe players of Irish Traditional Music
at all levels will enjoy the music and associated conversation at
this session.
Please feel free to invite any friends who
might be interested and are not on the list, and of course those who
might enjoy a |

Bluegrass & Old-Time Jam,
1st Mondays, 7:30 p.m.,
10 miles east of Charlottesville, on
Rt. 250.
A large number of bluegrass musicians,
mostly from east of Charlottesville and Richmond, gather to
play from the bluegrass, old-time, and country repertoires.
You can find small groups of musicians jamming all over the
first floor and basement of the church, both during and
after the main performance on the church stage. Be prepared
to play a solo, as each musician is expected to take a turn
alone (a "break") during each song.

Charlottesville,
Shebeen Restaurant,
Sunday, 3-6 p.m.
A traditional Irish Session: we play the session repertoire
that is used all over the East Coast. Even as a
complete beginner, you would certainly recognize a number of
these tunes. We also like to add in new tunes learned from
CDs, players' own compositions, a little Old-time, and lots
of contra dance tunes. Our audience is made up of people who
come into the Shebeen for a late Sunday lunch. General
session-playing rules: each tune gets played through 3
times, and no sheet music in sight, although both rules get
broken occasionally. Also, no talking during a solo. Our
goal is to have lots of fun, laugh a lot, maybe learn a new
song, meet new friends, and get a thrill out of playing
great music. Draft beers $2.50.
